Good Day all

As if you haven't noticed I am bit behind but I am still active and alive. I've been taking care of business, like the day job and stuff around the house. I am also working with Tiny Dragon promotions (https://tinydragonpromotions.com/) on creating a new look and feel to my website. Stay tuned for future post and a new look.

In Search of the Snowy, or it must be February.

For the last three years during the month of February, I’ve had the pleasure of going out with two great photographers, Nancy Dion (https://www.nancydionphoto.com/) and Scott Pare, Nancy and Scott have been doing this for some time and invited me to join them. Our goal has been to fine and capture a shot of the Snowy Owls that make the trip down from Points North.

Although we go to multiple locations, we usually end up at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. We’ve been lucky with the weather, but unfortunately not with the money shot of the Snowy. However, there is a lot of wildlife to be found and the refuge itself is beautiful, as it runs along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.

Three years ago, during our search we came upon a rather large Barred Owl and I would say he was only 10 to 15 yards from us. This was a first for me seeing such a beautiful bird this close in their natural setting. Yes, their heads do the 360-degree turn (creepy), and yes, they are a raptor, the talons on him were something I did not want to feel.

We were able to quickly set up and get a few shots off, not only of him in the tree, but on the hunt as well. It was a great trip and always a fun time with Nancy and Scott, I think we probably keep missing the Snowy as we are too busy laughing. We also came up with a new sport called “Full Contact Photography” or FCP but that’s for another post….

Lines, Light, and Shadows

What makes a photograph interesting? A beautiful subject(s)? While this is true, what really brings your attention to them?”

I am still in the beginning stages of learning what it takes to deliver an interesting photograph, but from my studies, professionals, and own experience, it’s all about the lines (shapes, circles etc.,), light, and shadows, and how they draw your eyes to your subject(s).

I am lucky enough to work near the Merrimack River and often during lunch I try to take a stroll along the river walk. During these walks, I try to practice what I am learning and try into incorporate the various shapes and shadows into the photograph with an outcome of making it just a bit more interesting. These next two shots are from one of last year’s stroll along the river walk, Shadows and Lines.
